Usain Bolt from cricket to track and field




Usain Bolt the name needs no introduction after Beijing Olympic 2008 Games. But only a few people know that in his childhood Usain Bolt was interested in cricket and he came in athletics after his cricket coach advised him for that.

Bolt was born in Sherwood content, a small town in Trelawny in Jamaica. According to Usain Bolt, he was fascinated about sports from his childhood. Bolt spent his time in playing cricket in his early age . He attended Waldensia Primary School and this was the place where for the first time his sprinting skills surfaced and by the age of 12 years Bolt had become the fastest runner of his school in 100 meter distance. But he didn't started focusing running as a career then.



Later he attended William Knob Memorial High School . This was the place where his cricket coach amused by his running potential requested him to join 'track and field' events . This was the turning point in his career as after this bolt coached by Pablo McNeil a former 100 meter Olympic athlete and Dwayne Barrett. They encouraged him to implement his potential and energy in strengthening his athletic abilities.


McNeil and Usain Bolt enjoyed a very positive partnership. Usain Bolt won his first high school championship medal in 2001. Although Bolt occasionally frustrated McNeil by his lack of concentration in training and funny jokes.
